The police arrested one more person on Friday in connection with the alleged forgery of documents for defaming Cardinal George Alencherry.

The arrested was identified as Vishnu, a friend of the third accused, Adithya Zacharia. Police sources said the arrest was recorded late on Friday night.

The accused was reportedly picked up from Bengaluru on Thursday night. He had allegedly helped Adithya in forging the documents.

The case was that bank transaction documents were forged to create an impression that the Cardinal had transferred substantial sums of money from a private bank account. The police had found that the Cardinal, who is also the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, did not operate any account in the said private bank.

The case was registered based on a complaint that Bishop Jacob Manathodath, apostolic administrator of the Syro-Malabar Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly, and Father Paul Thelakkatt, former official spokesman had produced forged documents to defame the Cardinal. The police had traced the origin of the documents to Adithya.
