The city police probing the seizure of drugs during a DJ party in Kochi last month have arrested another DJ from Goa, who allegedly runs a drug racket in Goa.
The arrested has been identified as Karthik, a popular figure in the electronic-music party scene of Goa. “Called DJ Karthik, he is the kingpin of a racket that supplied the party drug Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) to drug traders in Kerala. He was arrested on the basis of a lead received from Fifin Francis, who was arrested from Tripunithura earlier this month’’, said Harisankar, Deputy Commissioner of Police.
“Though not directly involved in the DJ party, Karthik’s role came to light after we recovered LSD mixed with sugar crystals from Sebastian, who was arrested during the party,” he said.
Goa-based racket
The presence of LSD pointed to the involvement of a Goa-based racket and based on Sebastian’s statement, the police eventually closed in on Fifin.
“During an interrogation, Fifin stated that he had been taking delivery of the dope from a racket led by DJ Karthik. Based on this a police team went to Goa last week and they zeroed in on him a couple of days earlier,” the official added.
The police produced Karthik in a local court there to obtain a transit warrant. He is expected to be brought to Kochi by Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, officials probing the case said Russian DJ Psycovsky, who was arrested during the party, had no links with the drug racket. “He was brought to Kochi by DJ Midhun Kokaachi, who used the occasion for drug peddling. He was arrested only on account of possessing a suspicious powder and violating the Foreigners Act,” officials said.
According to them, probe into the case has reached its final stages with the arrest of Karthik.
“We have already arrested Midhun, who organised the party and four members of the Cal B team, who supplied drugs to him. We have also identified all other sources of drugs supplied during the party, including LSD seized from the possession of Sebastian,” they said.
