One held on cheating charge

In a joint operation, shadow police and Panangad police arrested a person on charge of cheating people in the pretext of finding them kidney donors.

Ashik, 40, of Alathur in Palakkad was arrested on a complaint filed by two victims from Kasaragod who were cheated of Rs. 6.50 lakh. The accused approached patients with kidney ailments and secured lakhs in advance on the bogus promise of finding them donors. He witched off his mobile and turned incommunicado as soon as he got hold of the money. The police suspect that several people from neighbouring districts had also fallen for his trap and lost money.
