The State government is yet to make a call on how much space to be allocated for IT and ITES out of the additional 52 lakh sq. ft proposed by the Dubai-based promoters of SmartCity Kochi in the master plan.

The Framework Agreement signed by the State government and the promoters Tecom Investments on May 13, 2007, puts the commitment of Smart City (Kochi) Infrastructure Private Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) established by Tecom and its Permitted Affiliate to set up SmartCity Kochi, at 88 lakh sq. ft to be apportioned between IT/ITES and residential and commercial space at the ratio of 70:30. Tecom, however, has drawn up a master plan of 1.40 crore sq. ft.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson to review the progress of the project here on Friday, Principal IT Secretary P.H. Kurian said a decision has not yet been taken on whether to follow the 70:30 ratio in the case of additional space beyond 88 lakh sq. ft. It would be decided at the appropriate time, he said. Quoting the Framework Agreement, Baju George, managing director, SmartCity (India), said it would be decided subjected to the concurrence of the government nominee in the SmartCity Kochi Board of Directors (BoD).
