NIA court rejects Riyaz’ bail plea

The NIA Special Court in Kochi on Monday dismissed the bail petition filed by Muhammad Riyaz, accused of forcibly converting a woman from Pathanamthitta and attempting to take her to the Islamic State.

Rejecting the petition, the court noted that the bail could not be granted considering the gravity of the offences against him, on which the investigation was progressing. During the hearing, the NIA contended that the investigation against Riyaz had not been completed and it was planning to seek his custody again.

Bail for two

Meanwhile, the court has granted bail to Fawas Jamal and Siyad, natives of North Paravoor who were arrested for allegedly aiding Muhammed Riyaz. While granting the bail, the court ordered the accused to submit a bond of ₹1lakh and two solvent sureties each.

Both have been also asked not to leave the country and present before the investigation officer whenever required.
