A team of officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) brought Mohammed Ashar, who was arrested in New Delhi for his alleged role in the 2006 Kozhikode twin blasts case, here on Friday.
The team along with the accused arrived at the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery in the evening. He will be produced in the jurisdictional Special Court, Ernakulam, on Saturday.
Arrested in Delhi
The NIA Special Court in New Delhi had given transit remand to the team to take Ashar to Kochi. The accused was arrested on his arrival from Saudi Arabia at the Delhi airport on January 23.
The NIA will now file a petition seeking the custody of the accused.
Officials said Ahsar should be interrogated to elicit information on P.P. Yusuf, the other absconding accused.
The cases pertain to the twin blasts at the KSRTC and Mofussil bus stations in Kozhikode on March 3, 2006, injuring two persons and causing damage to property.
The NIA had taken over the investigation of the cases on December 18, 2009 and had filed a charge sheet against eight persons, including Ashar.
The trial of four accused was completed in August, 2011, and two other accused, T. Naseer and Sagas, were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Conspiracy
The NIA probe had revealed that Ashar, besides Yusuf, was party to the criminal conspiracy hatched by the prime accused, T. Naseer and others, to carry out the blasts.
