New library for coastal village

A new library was commissioned on Thursday at the coastal village of Pallipuram.

The new facility has been built by the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation at a cost of Rs.25 lakh under the State government’s Integrated Development of Fishing Villages Scheme, said a press release here. 

The 85.92-square metre library building has separate rooms for books, reading and office. Furniture and books for the library will be supplied by the KSCADC as part of the project. 

Minister for Fisheries K. Babu, who inaugurated the library, said the KSCADC was building 31 libraries for coastal villages at a cost of Rs.9.6 crore. Five of these, costing Rs.1.77 crore, will be in Ernakulam district.

The Minister also inaugurated the high-mast light installed at Munambam and Rakteshwari beaches at an overall cost of Rs.14 lakh.
