Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Mullappally Ramachandran has said the stance of the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Congress on the issue of entry of women of all ages to the Sabarimala temple has received wide acceptance from among the public.
Speaking at a meeting of the party’s constituency presidents in the central zone here on Saturday, he said that the position taken by the Congress party had also won the admiration of key people in various fields.
Accusing the CPI(M) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to leverage the Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala with an intention to gain political mileage, he said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was using the issue to divert people’s attention from relevant issues.
He also criticised the Centre for its alleged moves against constitutional bodies.
P.C. Chacko, permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee, said the party was on a revival path and looked good to win the just-concluded Assembly polls.
Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy also said the people of the country favoured the return of the Congress at the Centre.
