Central Water and Power Research Station senior research officer V.T. Desai on Saturday reached the Mullaperiyar dam to oversee the tomography test being conducted by the New Delhi-based company Parson Overseas Ltd.

The test was started on March 26 as per the direction of the empower committee appointed by the Supreme Court to look into the safety, security and strengthening measures of the dam.

The tomography test has been completed at four sites, a senior official of the Irrigation Department who accompanied Mr Desai told The Hindu .

A Mumbai-based company is expected to reach Kumily tonight to start the borehole camera test from Sunday onwards. It is expected to continue for four days and it will be conducted at the borehole spots on the main dam and the baby dam, the official said.

Mr Desai will also oversee the borehole camera test, said the official and added that a representative of the Irrigation Department, Kerala, and an assistant executive engineer of the Public Works Department Tamil Nadu accompanied Mr Desai.

Since the media is barred from entering the Mullaperiyar dam, the details of the tests are unavailable.
