KOCHI: The Thrikkakara police on Sunday arrested a four-member gang, who had allegedly waylaid a man who was travelling in his car on Seaport-Airport Road on Saturday night.

Sources said Hilal, son of Hameed of Ponnani, was waylaid, assaulted, and taken around in his own car by the gang. Hilal had reportedly borrowed ₹14 lakh from one of the gang members to fund his firm in Qatar and had offered him a higher return from profits. But he repaid him only a nominal amount.

This allegedly prompted the gang to waylay and assault him. The accused are Azeez from Nedumudy and Bilal, Navneet, and Isahaq, all from Aluva. A few unidentified persons who were involved in the incident are yet to be arrested. Hilal reportedly sustained injuries in the scuffle.

The gang members let him free at Thrikkakara after taking his ATM card, ₹24,000, and two I-phones. The accused were remanded in judicial custody.
