More than 3,500 women candidates in the fray in Kochi

: Its women’s day out in the electoral battlefield of Ernakulam.

As many as 3,669 women candidates are fighting it out to the 2,044 wards spread over 111 local bodies in the district.

The district election authorities said that the number of women candidates in the district has registered an increase compared to previous elections.

In comparison, their male counterparts have a numerical advantage of just 23. While 2,390 women are contesting to 1,338 wards in 82 grama panchayats, 317 women are contesting to 184 wards in block panchayats.
