More schools to be set up at primary level: Minister

Minister for Excise and Ports K. Babu has said that the government is formulating projects to make the State a global destination for education.

Inaugurating the new auditorium of the Tripunithura Government College here on Monday, Mr. Babu said that the global education meet planned for next year will go a long way in achieving this.

The government is planning comprehensive reforms in the education sector from primary level up to research. Emphasis will be given on making primary education universal as part of implementing the Right to Education Act. More schools will be set up at the primary level.

A proposal to start M Com in the Tripunithura Government College is under the active consideration of the government, Mr. Babu said. He said that steps will be taken soon to ready the playground of the college by freeing it from the dumping of waste by the municipality. He said that the problem of waste treatment faced by the municipality will be resolved once the modern waste treatment plant proposed at Brahmapuram becomes a reality.

Tripunithura municipal chairman R. Venugopal presided. S. Sarma, MLA, inaugurated the college canteen. District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed opened the fitness centre.

PWD executive engineer P.A. Hashim presented the report. Opposition leader of municipal council C.N. Sundareshan and other councillors were present.
