Missing fishers’ kin demand govt action

Collision at sea off Kochi coast

August 12, 2018 12:25 am | Updated 12:25 am IST - KOCHI

The relatives of the fishermen on board Oceanic, the boat which collided with an unidentified ship off Kochi on August 7, has demanded immediate intervention by the Union and State governments to trace the missing fishermen.

Addressing mediapersons here on Saturday, they said that the search teams had so far been able to examine only the sea surface and demanded that their operations be expanded to the sea bed.

“Instead of deploying modern techniques such as cage diving to find the wreckage, they keep asking us to show the exact place where the collision took place,” they alleged.

‘Probe delayed’

On the occasion, they also alleged that the authorities were deliberately delaying the investigation despite identifying the ship in question. Arul Mahesh, a native of Ramanthurai in Kanyakumari, whose four brothers are missing after the accident, was among those who addressed the media on Saturday.
