The Railway police seized about 5 kg of ganja from a person in Aluva and arrested him on Tuesday.

The police nabbed Mustafa Mandol, 41, a native of Murshidabad, West Bengal, allegedly with the contraband from the railway station.

The quantity of the seized ganja is not much, considering the trade in drugs and narcotics in the city and nearby areas, said K.M. Jijimon, Deputy Superintendent of the Ernakulam Railway Police, who led the operations.

Mustafa Mandol’s local address was in Perumbavoor, which was a hub of the drug trade in the district, said Mr. Jijimon. Many migrant workers found it a lucrative business opportunity to be carriers of the drug, he said.
