A micro plan will be prepared to check the spread of communicable diseases in all wards in corporations and municipalities where primary health centres (PHCs) do not have reach. A decision in this regard was taken at a special meeting chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (Health) on Thursday.
Health Minister K.K. Shylaja said a three-member team of volunteers (one male member necessary), including Kudumbasree and ASHA workers, would visit 25 houses in an area in a bid to control mosquito population and to reduce its breeding sources on a war footing.
In wards with PHCs, Health Department employees and NGOs will take up the task under the guidance of the District Medical Officer (DMO) and the District Programme Manager (DPM) of the National Health Mission. Details of the micro plan, prepared by DMOs and DPMs in association with district Kudumbasree officers, should be sent to the Health Directorate on every Thursday, the Minister said.
Training for the teams will be offered at the levels of DMO and DPM. Micro plan activities have to be conducted in corporations and panchayats simultaneously. Houses, offices, construction sites, apartments, business establishments, tyre retreading centres, waste collection centres, workshops and garages, and shops selling tender coconut water will be inspected. Also, reports on efforts to eliminate sources of mosquito breeding will be submitted to the directorate.
“The activities should be led by the respective ward health sanitation committee chairman or convenor. Involvement of residents’ associations has to be ensured, and unoccupied buildings should be cleaned up. Besides, arrangement should be make to recover the cost of work from property owners concerned. Instructions have been issued to all local self government bodies in this regard,” the Minister said.
