MG university answer sheets recovered from roadside

Teacher, examiner, camp officer suspended from exam duty

Nearly 30 evaluated answer sheets of Mahatma Gandhi University’s B.Sc. third semester biotechnology exam were recovered from Thottakkattukara Junction near Aluva on Tuesday around 3 p.m.

Autorickshaw drivers recovered the sheets found on the roadside. “We found a plastic kit along the road and on opening it found the exam papers inside,” said Siju, an autorickshaw driver.

The drivers gave it to Jerome Michael, chairman of the public works standing committee of Aluva municipality and councillor Lalitha Ganeshan, who, in turn, handed it over to the Aluva East Police. The police have filed a First Information Report invoking Section 102 (any property which may be alleged or suspected to have been stolen, or which may be found under circumstances which create suspicion of the commission of any offence) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Taking serious note of the incident, University Vice Chancellor Sabu Thomas said the teacher, the chief examiner and the camp officer concerned had been immediately suspended from exam duties. A three-member inquiry committee comprising R. Pragash, convenor, syndicate sub committee on exams, and syndicate members Tomichan Joseph and A. Jose had been asked to probe the incident and submit a report to the Vice Chancellor immediately.

Meanwhile, the police said they would submit the papers before Aluva First Class Judicial Magistrate on Wednesday.
