The Kochi Metro Rail Anti-Alignment Action Committee has demanded a review of the present alignment and plan of the project.
The move to make the Aluva private bus stand a major point on the proposed metro rail route would be detrimental to the interests of the people, action committee chairman E.A. Abdul Najeed told a press conference here on Monday.
This would necessitate the demolition of many buildings, including the private bus stand's shopping complex, and many trade establishments, depriving many people of their livelihood, he said.
The office-bearers urged the authorities to stick to the original proposal of proceeding from near the mini civil station, along the eastern side of the Aluva railway station, to advance through Pulinchodu. They said adequate Puramboke land was available in this area and it would be feasible financially as well.
The action committee office-bearers said they had written to the Prime Minister, Union Shipping and Surface Transport Ministry, the Planning Commission of India, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation demanding a review of the present plan.
Committee general convener Haneefa and treasurer K.P. Abdul Khader were present at the press meet.
