Man held for attempt to murder wife

A day after Akhil aka Achu, 24, of Thripunithura stabbed his wife Sreelakshmi, 22, multiple times in broad daylight on the road over marital discord, the Udayamperoor police arrested the accused on Friday.

Sreelakshmi, who was admitted to hospital, is now stable.

“The accused, who had gone into hiding shortly after the incident, surrendered late on Thursday night and his arrest was recorded on Friday. He had several cases registered against him,” said K.A. Shibin, sub inspector, Udayamperoor. He was produced in court and remanded.

Reportedly, the couple were living separately for a while. The victim, who had been living in a girls’ hostel, was on the way to her house at Mankayikadavu when she came under the attack of the accused who was following her. A similar attempt to attack her was made in the past as well, the police said.

The police have registered a case invoking IPC Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means).
