Pothanikkad police on Thursday arrested a person on charge of rape. The arrested is Sulaiman Maulavi, 53, of Koovalloor in Pallarimangalam village. He was produced in court and remanded.
“The accused previously ran an orphanage at Koovalloor, which had to be closed down after he was booked for unnatural sex with juvenile inmates lodged there. The case is under trial at Ernakulam Posco court,” said R. Baiju, Sub Inspector, Pothanikkad. Later, he converted it into a hostel and recruited a woman as warden. He has now been booked for sexually abusing her multiple times. The police have registered a case invoking IPC Section 376 (rape).
Besides, the police have registered another case invoking IPC Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) against the accused for resisting the arrest.
