KOCHI: The 21-year-old woman from West Bengal, a victim of a plot by a woman to entrap her in a robbery case, on Sunday turned up before the Kalamassery police to give her statement in the case.

Speaking to reporters here, she claimed that she had been forced to work without salary for four years by her employer at Kalamassery, and that the family used to assault her often. “Having joined the family as a maid through an agent four years ago, they used to behave very rudely with me and assaulted me very often. I ran away from the house with the intention of committing suicide,” she said after giving her statement at the police station.

The incident came to light when the house owner approached the police two weeks ago, accusing the woman of fleeing with gold ornaments after locking her and her daughter in a room. However, investigations found that it was a false complaint, and the police registered cases under Sections 182 IPC (punishment for filing false complaint) and 323 IPC (voluntarily causing hurt) against the house owner.

The gold ornaments were also recovered from under a bed in her house.

A police team later traced the victim from Fort Kochi using the tower location of the mobile phone that she carried. She is at present lodged at a Mahila Mandir at Kakkanad.

Meanwhile, the police are ascertaining her age to check if the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act could be invoked and asked her to produce her birth certificate.
