The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) is taking steps to develop the skills of school students in advanced computer technologies.

Over 100 students (called Little KITEs) in schools across Ernakulam were exposed to several areas such as making Internet of Things (IoT) devices and 3D character modelling using free and open software solution at a camp held here recently. KITE district coordinator M.P. Jayan said the students received training in mobile app development (torch app, QR code scanner) and electronic voting machines using Raspberry Pi board.

“They were also provided with lessons on IoT device model that enabled operating lights and fans in a network using sound signals and text messages. The students were also taught Python programming for creating the coding for electronic voting machines and IoT device models,” he said. The students made sensor-driven alarms, electronic voting machines, 3D animation of solar system, and 3D models of dining table, glass, cups, saucers, fruit basket, and dining hall.

Mr. Jayan said Ernakulam had 5,036 little KITEs under 175 units. A State-camp will be held during the summer vacation as the next step of the ongoing programme.
