Legal Metrology raid: 58 cases registered

Following raids conducted by the State Legal Metrology wing on business and trade establishments across the district, 58 cases have been registered and a total fine of Rs.88,000 has been imposed on violators of the Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Act.

According to an official release here on Wednesday, raids were conducted on petrol pumps, ration outlets, fish and meat markets, vegetable selling outlets, margin-free shops, Liquefied Petroleum Gas agencies and jewellery showrooms across the district.

Violations, including sale of products not conforming to the required weights and measures standards, and the use of non-calibrated equipment, were among those noted and for which cases were booked.

The Legal Metrology wing has also issued directions to public transport vehicles to ensure that their meters were calibrated and is in working condition.

Raids to detect violators in this regard will be conducted soon, according to the release.
