The city gas project will be completed in the city and Kochi will become the first corporation in the State to have piped gas supply system, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Speaking at an interactive session organised in connection with the election campaign of Left Democratic Front (LDF)-backed candidate Manu Roy for the Ernakulam bypoll here on Sunday, Mr. Vijayan said the State government had raised the issue of the piped gas project during a discussion with the Prime Minister. The Chief Minister claimed that the State government had fulfilled most of the promises it had listed in the election manifesto.

Progress report

Of the 600 promises made in the manifesto, only 53 remain to be implemented. The government has also released a progress report on its achievements.

The State government has succeeded in changing the socio-political atmosphere of the State and put an end to rampant corruption in public life. The education sector has witnessed tremendous progress, with facilities in schools and classrooms being improved. Over 45,000 classrooms had been made hi-tech by the government, said the Chief Minister.

Flyovers

Later, addressing a public meeting, Mr. Vijayan highlighted the upcoming flyovers at Kundannoor and Vyttila as signs of achievement of the State government. The Palarivattom flyover, which had been closed for traffic, was a memorial to the bad state of affairs during the previous United Democratic Front (UDF) regime, he said.

Ministers Kadannapally Ramachandran and A.K. Saseendran, CPI(M) district secretary C.N. Mohanan and LDF leaders M. Anilkumar and T.C. Sanjith were among those who attended.

The Chief Minister and other Ministers also attended some family meetings as part of the election campaign.
