The absence of social security net in legal profession was prompting law graduates to move to corporate bodies for employment, said Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan, judge of the High Court of Kerala.

Taking a serious note of the trend, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that many law graduates were seeking employment in posts which don't require a degree in law. The high salary paid by corporate organisations was luring the graduates, said Mr. Radhakrishnan while inaugurating the moot court competition organised by the Ernakulam Law College. Healthy debates between the judges, legal experts and lawyers were necessary for the existence of the legal system.

Any weakening of the legal system will weaken the sovereignty of the country, he said. A.S. Saroja, principal of the college, presided.

Rajan Varghese, Pro Vice Chancellor of the MG University, D.M. Balakrishna Prabhu and Kapil Chandran spoke. V.R Jayadevan welcomed the gathering and A. Anusree proposed a vote of thanks.
