Taking cognizance of the loss of livelihood and jobs among its members and their families in the post-flood scenario, the Kudumbashree Mission is set to roll out Acquiring Resilience and Identity through Sustainable Employment (ARISE), a sector-specific skill development training programme, from mid-January.

The Mission has identified ten different job sectors for short-term basic training by its various empanelled agencies based on a survey carried out across the State. Training will not be limited to Kudumbashree members but to their family members, including males, as well.

“We are aiming at training around 5,000 members in the district to fill the gaps in employment opportunities and livelihood as revealed by the survey. So far, 550 people have registered for training in different job sectors through Community Development Societies at the local body-level,” T.M. Rajeena, Assistant District Mission Coordinator, told The Hindu .

The registration, which started on December 15, is likely to be extended beyond the original deadline of January 15. Electric works, electronic repairs, plumbing, data entry, house keeping, domestic service, sales, laundry and ironing, day care, and agri-related services are the ten sectors identified for skill development training.

“The training for the first batch is likely to get under way on January 15. The first batch will be reserved for data entry since it evoked the maximum response among the various courses on offer,” said Ms. Rajeena.

The courses will run for different durations ranging from five to 21 days and will be open to the age groups from 18 to 50, though relaxations will be extended in the case of age limit. Data entry with three week-long training is the lengthiest course while agri-related services, including operations of agriculture and coconut climbing machines, have the shortest training duration of three days.

“The programme is primarily to identify the core areas of interest among the candidates. We are planning to give them extended training in their chosen areas or even assist them in setting up related enterprises in due course,” said Ms. Rajeena.

The Kudumbashree Mission proposes to complete the training programmes under ARISE in a couple of months.
