The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has launched the process of selecting a consultant to prepare a perspective plan and concept master plan for sites of Integrated Manufacturing Clusters in the proposed Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor region.
The proposed industrial corridor passes through Palakkad and Coimbatore to link with the Chennai-Bengaluru industrial corridor.
In its introductory note for prospective respondents to the proposals for Request For Qualification and Request For Proposal, the KSIDC said the industrial corridor project was linked to the Union government’s Make in India programme. The programme is to increase manufacturing base in the country and to provide the best of facilities for the purpose.
The proposed industrial corridor holds out an opportunity for the State since it is a chance for ‘aligning industrial development with national targets,’ said the KSIDC document. At the national level, it will be possible to build industrial corridors in a ‘collective and coordinated fashion.’
The Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor passes through parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu and proposes to address ‘infrastructure bottlenecks through a holistic approach’, tapping the strengths and experiences of the States involved.
Integrated manufacturing clusters will be developed at key locations along the industrial corridor. The clusters are proposed as self-sustaining ‘with world-class infrastructure, road and rail connectivity for freight movement to and from ports and logistics hubs, served by reliable power and quality social infrastructure.’ They will provide a globally competitive environment conducive for businesses.
