Kochi port’s invite to businessmen

June 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - KOCHI:

Chairman of Cochin Port Trust Paul Antony appealed to Kerala businessmen to come back to Kochi port for business instead of relying on other ports.

He was speaking at an interactive session organised by The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Friday, said a press release from the Chamber, which cited the Chairman as saying that checkposts in Chennai and Coimbatore took two days for clearance of cargo compared to an average seven hours at the Valayar checkpost.

The State government has constituted a committee to study the current standards of transport facilities in the State and provide a report in order to bring about changes to road transport Laws. Access to the port is set to become more convenient in the coming days.

The port chairman said that the new land policy for the port was a welcome sign for businessman. The new policy allows every individual business to lease land and properties directly from the Port instead of subleasing form a land owner.

The Chairman said that the recent events related to the arrival of 30,000 tonnes of wheat had brought shame to the Port, the press release said. He said that he even held meetings with the union leaders to clear the cargo which did not succeed.
