Kochi in fray for Smart City challenge

With the Central government launching the Smart City project on Thursday, the civic administration has offered to gear up the preparatory works for making the city eligible for the scheme.

Six corporations, including Kochi and Malappuram municipality, are in the fray and the Smart City from the State would be selected through a city challenge scheme.

Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany and Corporation secretary V.R. Raju attended the launch of the programme at New Delhi.

Prelim work

The local body is in the process of completing the initial criteria laid down for making the city eligible for the scheme, said a communication issued by Mr. Chammany. The project is expected to benefit the city dwellers by improving the infrastructure facilities, he said.
