The State government-owned consultancy Kitco has bagged a ₹195-crore consultancy order for the Defence System Integration Complex (DSIC) to be set up in Andhra Pradesh by the Union public sector company Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). Kitco bagged the consultancy contract despite “tough competitive bidding in which leading firms like Engineers India, Mecon and Tata Consultancy” participated.
Make in India
The greenfield project was being set up in 919 acres under the Union government’s ‘Make in India’ programme at Palasamudram in Anantapur district, said a communication from Kitco. The state-of-the-art weapons and radar complex using advanced artificial intelligence systems will reduce the dependence on import of defence equipment and help indigenise technology.
The scope of the consultancy involves design, tendering and execution of factory complex, development of strategic business units with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities for missile electronics integration. Kitco would function as consultants for all electrical, civil and mechanical works in the project, the communication added.
Phase I of the work involves setting up of weapon system integration, beacon facilities and hard stands while Phase II involves homeland security (HLS), weapon manufacturing, UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), electronic warfare test range and bunkers for missile storage. Blast-proof buildings and elevation towers will also be added in later stages.
