The Income tax sleuths on Tuesday seized cash worth over Rs.2 crore during a raid on a property rented by Mathew International, an agency allegedly involved in the nurses’ recruitment scam.

Officials said the raid on the property located on the Kaloor-Kadavanthra stretch, was based on a tip off. The cash seized from the building is yet to be counted. Following a raid about two weeks ago, the IT department had put several of the property rented by the agency under a prohibitory order.

Officials also pointed to the possible links between the money seized and the nurses’ recruitment scam.

Earlier in April, IT officials had raided offices of Mathew International in Kochi, following which the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) decided to include the Mumbai-based recruitment firm in the scope of its investigation.

According to officials, the company had an agreement with Ministry of Health Kuwait for recruiting 400 nurses.

The interviews of the nurses were held at the Mathew International offices in Kochi and Mumbai in February.

The company had recruited nurses promising a salary of Rs 1.5 lakh per month. But the agency charged a service fee of around Rs 20 lakh as against the stipulated fee of Rs 19,500.
