IPC anniversary celebrations

The Directorate of Prosecution will celebrate the 155{+t}{+h}anniversary of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Saturday here.

The year-long celebrations will be inaugurated by Finance Minister K.M. Mani. N.R. Madhava Menon, former Director, National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, will speak.

Director General of Prosecution T. Asaf Ali told the media that though the IPC was amended 73 times, it was still being debated whether it was a complete code which had met the socio-cultural aspirations of the country. The meet would discuss whether it was protecting the life, liberty and property of the citizen. There would be legal workshops, seminars, training programmes as part of the celebration programmes.

The meet will also highlight the need for constituting a regular cadre of prosecution as envisaged in the Criminal Law Amendment Act 2005, he said.
