Go Green is an evergreen theme, and the Indian Coast Guard organised a Go Green Walkathon on Friday highlighting the need for a green environment.
Around 550 students from schools across the city and volunteers from various government organisations participated in the 4.5-km walkathon from the Coast Guard headquarters in Fort Kochi to Veli Junction and back.
The event was organised to commemorate the 42nd Raising Day of the Coast Guard. Participants held up placards underlining the importance of environment conservation during the walkathon.
Vijay Sakhare, Inspector General, Coastal Police, was the chief guest at the event which was conducted as part of the Coast Guard’s social responsibility activities, including beach clean-up drives, tree planting, and blood donation, according to a press release.
Deputy Inspector General and Commander, Coast Guard District (Kerala and Mahe), Sanatan Jena was present.
