The district administration on Sunday launched a campaign to keep diseases at bay, with the slogan Malinyam Akattam Rogangalum (Keep waste away and diseases too).

The campaign organised by the district unit of the National Health Mission with the support and cooperation of various departments was inaugurated by Mayor Soumini Jain at Vathuruthy. District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirullah inaugurated the disease examination camp for migrant workers on the occasion. Health standing committee chairperson V.K. Minimol presided over the function. While many communicable diseases have been brought under control, a lack of awareness is helping diseases like diphtheria make a comeback, said Ms. Jain.
