: The government is toying a proposal to scale up the proposed electronic park at Amballloor near here by linking it with the Centre’s ambitious multi-crore project for setting up electronic hubs in select cities across the country.

The Hindu has learnt from senior officials in the Industries Department that a detailed project report on including the park under the scheme would be made after completion of the land acquisition at Amballur panchayat near Piravom.

“We need at least 100 acres to explore the Union government’s incentives under the electronic hub initiative. An elaborate project will be drawn up immediately after the acquisition process is over,” they said.

The government is eyeing the Centre’s plan to support States in developing new manufacturing clusters for electronic goods in select cities to boost manufacturing. Moreover, the Industries Department wanted to explore the possibilities of getting subsidies and incentives from the Union government to companies setting up facilities at the Amballur park.

Minister for Registration and Civil Supplies Anoop Jacob, representing Piravom Assembly constituency, said that efforts were on to remove the bottlenecks related to acquisition of land for the project being implemented by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation.

“We wanted at least 100 acres to start the project. The survey for 15 acres is over. The negotiated purchase will be adopted to buy the land from the local farmers and residents,” he said. A meeting of the stakeholders will be held at Kanjiramattom on August 9 to sort out the issues related to land acquisition and purchase.

The proposed world class park was estimated to draw investment to the tune of Rs. 650 crore through manufacturing and assembling of electronic equipment ranging from television, refrigerator, washing machine, computer to mobile handsets and by attracting companies in the semiconductor and electronic components sector.
