Gold smuggling: two arrested

October 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - KOCHI:

The Muvattupuzha police on Saturday arrested Salim and Fazil, accused of gold smuggling through the Cochin International Airport, a day after they were slapped with the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (Cofeposa) along with seven others.

Salim and his brother-in-law Fazil were part of the Muvattupuzha Syndicate which had smuggled about 3,000 kg of gold through the Cochin International Airport. They had been absconding after Custom authorities started a probe into the case. With Cofeposa imposed, the duo will be shifted to Poojappura central prison, said Customs officials.
