Gang held on charge of stealing mobile tower batteries

The Perumbavoor police on Friday arrested a three-member gang suspected of having stolen batteries from mobile towers across the State.

The arrested are Shyamkumar, 38, and Babu, 40, of Aluva, and Vinobhan, 40, of Kollam. The trio were employees at the godown of a mobile tower manufacturing company at Vazhakkulam.

The accused carried out thefts banking on their experience in installing inverters, batteries, and generators in mobile towers during power disruptions, which also made them privy to the place where keys to mobile tower sites were kept. The police said the accused had confessed to have carried out similar thefts in Kottayam and Changanassery.
