Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari will dedicate MV Corals, the new vessel acquired by the Lakshadweep Administration, and the newly-built Lakshadweep Wharf and Passenger Facilitation Centre to the nation on Friday.
The Minister, who arrives here on Thursday on a two-day visit, will take stock of the progress of National Highway works. Public Works Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju will accompany him. The Union Minister will also attend an interactive session with members of the Confederation of Indian Industry. Mr. Gadkari will visit the Cochin Port Trust on Friday. He will review the port operations.
The dedication function is scheduled at Samudrika Convention Centre at 9.30 a.m. H. Rajesh Prasad, Administrator, Union Territory of Lakshadweep, will attend the function.
The Minister will also visit Cochin Shipyard before leaving for Mumbai in the afternoon. A spokesman for Lakshadweep Administration said the dedicated berth at the port and other facilities were built at a cost of over Rs. 40 crore. MV Corals has the capacity to carry 400 passengers.
