Four persons were arrested by Town Central Police while attempting to commit burglary near Bhagavathy Textiles at Post Office Link Road.
Those arrested were Pramod, 33, of Thamarathu Veedu, near MES Hospital, Vadanappally, Thrissur; Mani, 38, IHDP Colony, Kundukadu, Alathur; Sreenivasan, 38, Perumpattuparambu, SRM Road, Kaloor; and Nazeer, 43, Veliyamparambu, Kakkazham, Ambalapuzha, Alappuzha. All these accused have cases of robbery and burglary pending against them in different police stations.
They were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and remanded.
Tax evasion detected
The City Police seized protein powder used in gymnasiums, which was brought in after evading sales tax.
Stanely Joshy, 39, of Mulavukadu, was bringing in the material from Chennai and was intercepted while transporting it in an autorickshaw owned by Satheesan of T.V. Puram. Nine cartons of the material worth nearly Rs.1.18 lakh was seized and handed over to Rajesh Palamattom, Intelligence Officer, Sales Tax.
Joshy was supplying this to different gymnasiums in the city, where it was used for body building.
He was stopped on the basis of a tip-off received by M.N. Ramesh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Special Branch.
Fined
A fine of Rs. 29,735 was levied later, said the release.
