Yet another incident of fish kill was reported from Periyar on Tuesday. This time, the massive fish death occurred at a 7-km-long stretch of the river between Muttar and Manjummal. Large-sized fishes were found floating on the river from Tuesday morning. Local people were also found collecting big fishes weighing a few kilos. This is the seventh such instance this year, said Martin Gopurathingal, an environmental campaigner.

The officials of the Kerala State Pollution Control Board, who collected water samples from the river, suspect that dumping of septic waste somewhere near the mainstream of the river near Aluva might have caused the causality.
