Fire and Rescue Services personnel battle the fire that broke out nearMangalavanam in Kochi on Sunday evening.

Timely intervention of Fire and Rescue Services personnel prevented the spread of a fire that occurred behind Mangalavanam on Sunday evening.

Sources said that a good share of the vegetation next to Mangalavanam and a fuel pump nearby caught fire around 5 p.m. Fire personnel could not go near the spot since there was no road or pathway. “We had to make a way to reach the area. But for our efforts, the fire would have spread to Mangalavanam and the fuel pump,” they said.

Personnel in five fire tenders from Club Road, Gandhinagar and Tripunithura stations, led by station officer K.J. James, doused the fire. They remained there till around 9 p.m., to prevent any further fire.
