: A huge fire broke out at a plywood manufacturing unit at Thayikkarachira near Perumbavoor on Monday night. However, there was no report of human loss or injury in the fire, said personnel at the Perumbavoor fire station.

About fifteen fire tenders from stations including Thrikkakara, Aluva , Kothaangalam and Eloor were pressed into service to put out the flames. Fire fighters could manage to control the inferno by around 10 p.m, they said. The exact cause of the fire was not known yet even though officials suspected that a short circuit following lightning in the region might have triggered the fire.
