At a review meeting of Labour Department officials here on Monday, Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan asked officers to complete registration of migrant workers in the Awaaz health cover and job security programme.

The scheme, which envisages annual medical insurance of ₹15,000 and a compensation of ₹2 lakh to next of kin in the event of a labourer’s death, has so far been subscribed by 3,91,901 migrant workers. The Minister asked the officials to actively intervene to resolve issues pertaining to grant of bonus during the Onam season. Practical decisions must be taken to iron out differences between workers and employers.

Renewal

As for Awaaz, renewal of existing subscriptions and fresh enrolments must be done proactively, he said at the meeting held at the Collectorate conference hall.
