The district administration has stepped up efforts to make Ernakulam tobacco-free.

An official release issued here on Tuesday said that the administration has tightened enforcement of tobacco control laws in the district giving special focus on how to protect children and adolescents from the adverse impact of tobacco use.

Training programmes for headmasters of schools were held in Angamaly and Ernakulam educational districts, as part of the initiative. The district administration has chalked out a 100-day plan to check the use of tobacco products. P. I. Sheikh Pareed, District Collector, said that the ban on sale of tobacco products within 400 metres of educational institutions will be enforced effectively in the days. Notices will be issued to shops and establishments selling tobacco products. Board will be set up in educational institutions against the use of tobacco products.
