The City Traffic Police have directed the Kochi Corporation to ensure reflectors, adequate lighting, warning and diversion boards and temporary barricading in order to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians while undertaking road repair works.

On their part, Corporation officials must ensure supervision when the work is done. Care must also be taken to prevent damage to utility lines and cables.

The direction came on a letter sent by the Corporation seeking police permission to do repair works on Gandhinagar Road, Salim Rajan Road and P.V. Antony Road.

As a general policy, no permission for carrying out any work which causes inconvenience to the general public during day time would be granted to anyone in future.

Permission for exceptional circumstances requiring day-time work must be discussed by the respective agency before hand.

Meeting today

A meeting of all agencies involved in road works has been called in the Police Commissioner’s chamber on Friday, police sources said.

An exception

The police had on Wednesday permitted a contractor to do repair works on one side of a road during day time as an exception.
