Ratheesh Kumar R.T., an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marine Geology and Geophysics, Cochin University Science and Technology, has been selected as a NASA Postdoc Fellow/Visiting Scholar for the Mars Data Analysis Programme.
An official release said that the programme is being hosted by the University of Kentucky. The proposal for research related to the internal structure, geodynamic processes and evolution of the planet Mars was approved by NASA with an adjectival rating of ‘Very Good’ for the merit score of the proposal.
Dr. Ratheesh had obtained his PhD from Indian the Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, and has worked as a Centenary Postdoctoral Fellow of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and International Post-doctoral Fellow of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Based on a multidisciplinary research of integrating geological and geophysical research that focuses on the origin and tectonic evolution of the Earth, Dr. Ratheesh has published his findings in many top international journals. He was a recipient of the Best Paper Award in the 25th Kerala Science Congress-2013. The Cochin university has granted him permission to work for this project in the U.S. for a period of two years.
