Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Monday said the government had strengthened the police’s dog squad considering the increasing role of the canines in security operations.

He was addressing here the passing-out ceremony of 25 police dogs and 50 handlers trained at the Kerala Police Academy.

“Attempts have been made to improve the standards of the squad. The dogs and their handlers have been given the kind of training international security agencies do. They will be given the same kind of facilities that kennel units of international agencies get,” he said.

A dog, named Honey, was made to receive the Home Minister by offering him a bouquet.

A demonstration by the police dogs was organised.

Director General of Police K. S. Balasubramanian, Additional Director General Rajesh Diwan, and Inspector General (Training) Suresh Raj Purohit were present.
