‘CPI(M) stands united in district’

January 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - KOCHI:

Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] district secretary P. Rajeev, MP, has said the party has successfully managed to eradicate intra-party factionalism to a great extent and described the problem as an old chapter.

At a meet-the-press programme organised by the Press Club here on Friday, Mr. Rajeev, however, quickly added that factionalism could neither be addressed as easily as pressing the switch off button nor could it be addressed by a lone individual.

He said the party was united in the district, citing as proof the manner in which the district meeting was held, the report was approved and the district secretary and the State meeting representatives were elected.

Stating that no difference existed within the party in the district in terms of political and organisational matters, Mr. Rajeev said his mandate would be to preserve the unity and to address issues through collective leadership.

Asked about the elections held at the lower rungs leading up to the district meeting, he said the party approved internal elections in a democratic nature, subject to the party constitution and guidelines.

The party would collectively examine wherever there had been deviations from the party’s organisational principles that warranted corrections and the nature of corrective measures to be adopted, he said.

Mr. Rajeev exuded confidence that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would register an impressive victory in the upcoming elections to the local bodies.

The issue of corruption, which was on a scale never witnessed before, coupled with the anti-people policies of the United Democratic Front (UDF)-ruled local bodies offered a congenial atmosphere for a LDF sweep, he claimed.

He said the district party machinery was set to observe the A.P. Varkey Remembrance Day in February by launching a sanitation campaign. Party members would be asked to take part in the cleanliness drive starting with their households, he said.
