The CPI(M) is trying to reap the fruits of hatred it had sown at the local body elections, senior BJP leader P.S. Sreedharan Pillai said.
Talking at a meet-the-press organised by the Press Club here on Monday, Mr. Pillai alleged that stripped of its capacity to dictate the agenda during the elections, the CPI(M) leadership was whipping up communal hatred to ensure minority votes.
Inciting communal hatred
“Either the leaders should withdraw such statements or the State Election Commission should act against them for inciting communal hatred, which is a crime punishable with imprisonment up to three years,” he said citing a recent spate of reports in the party mouthpiece Deshabhimani based on an article published in the RSS mouthpiece Panchjanya .
The CPI(M) is on the verge of liquidation, he said terming the candidacy of Karayi Rajan and Karayi Chandrasekharan as the “bankruptcy” of the party.
Mr. Pillai said that though the Nair Service Society sticks to its equidistance policy, in this atmosphere of skewed social equilibrium, majority of its members in their hearts were supportive of the third alternative led by the BJP.
He claimed that BJP rule in local bodies would surpass the three-figure mark in this election and predicted a ten-fold increase from the existing 600-odd seats for the party.
The BJP has fielded the maximum number of candidates in this election. While it had fielded at most 7,000 candidates in the past, this time the number is 17,000.
