The Ernakulam district committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has accused Mayor Soumini Jain of not coming with time-bound projects to develop roads and to resolve waterlogging in the city.

The government had allocated ₹527.33 crore to the civic body for development and modernisation of the corporation roads and to find a solution to the problem of waterlogging. However, 50% of the assistance got lapsed as the ruling council failed to come up with time-bound projects, said K.J. Antony, Opposition leader in the council, and V.P. Chandran, LDF’s parliamentary secretary, in a statement.

Alleging that the Mayor was spreading lies by saying that the government did not support the corporation, Mr. Antony said the government had sanctioned ₹11.79 crore months back to repair the roads, where the Kerala Water Authority had carried out digging work to lay the pipelines. The KWA had also issued clearance certificate after completing the work. However, the Corporation failed to repair the damaged roads, he said.
