June 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - KOCHI:

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Monday directed the State government to complete the maintenance of the entire road network in the State before the first week of November every year.

A Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice Sunil Thomas issued the directive when a case relating to a plea for completion of the repair works of roads leading to Sabarimala came up for hearing.

The Bench also directed the State government to grant administrative sanction for the maintenance of the roads leading to Sabarimala at least three months before commencement of the Sabarimala festival.

Directive to officials

The court also directed the State Police Chief, Road Safety Commissioner, the Chief Engineer of Public Works Department and National Highways and the Local Self-Government Departments to comply with the earlier directive of the Division Bench with respect to the maintenance of roads.

The Bench directed the officers concerned to ensure that the directives of the court were obeyed.

The court also recorded the submission that the executive magistrate in the office of the Special Commissioner inspected the various Sabarimala roads and had reported the matter to the Special Commissioner.
